Michael Nkrumah-Appau

Michael Nkrumah-Appau is a distinguished youth leader and medical professional from Ghana, recognised for his expertise in neglected tropical diseases, clinical care, youth advocacy, and sustainable development. Driven by a strong commitment to African progress, Michael seeks to empower young people and foster sustainable societies through knowledge-sharing and cross-continental collaboration.

As a core member of a medical research team, Michael works on projects aimed at delivering optimal treatment and research-based care for individuals living with neglected tropical diseases, such as Buruli ulcer, leprosy, and yaws, especially in hard-to-reach and marginalised communities. His leadership extends to youth movements focused on empowering young females, providing mentorship, advocating for abuse prevention, raising awareness about cancer, and supporting educational funding. He serves as an academic and professional mentor and coach, inspiring and guiding youth within his community.

Michael’s dedication to public health and youth leadership has earned him several recognitions, including his selection as a participant at the 2024 Pan-African Youth Forum (Oran, Algeria) sponsored by the African Union, and as an award winner for a proposal on Antimicrobial Stewardship by the Alliance Against Antimicrobial Resistance and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is an Associate Member of the West African Academy of Public Health.

Michael’s multifaceted background in research, advocacy, and mentoring makes him an invaluable contributor to the Youth Advisory Board. He is committed to strengthening health systems and educational opportunities for young people, embodying the collaborative and youth-driven spirit of the AU-EU Youth Voices Lab – Power of the Collective.
